BDSM People's guide to aesthetic pleasures

1

Histoire d'О (1975)

The original book based on which this film was made was published back in 1954 and instantly became the object of many scandals. On the one hand, a novel about BDSM relationships was refused to print by major publishers, and it was released by a small printing house that specialized in pulp fiction. On the other hand, "Histoire d’O" immediately received a major literary award from Deux Magots. After that, the book was repeatedly tried to be banned through the courts, but it has already become a legend.

The film closely follows the plot of the original, but shows many of the details very superficially. He talks about a girl who calls herself simply O (debutante Corinne Clery).

At the beginning of the movie, the beloved of the heroine Rene takes her to the castle of Roissy, where she is to be made a submissive slave.

Oh at first does not understand why she is being treated like that. But she is in this relationship voluntarily and gradually begins to experience the pleasure of submission and even punishment.

The couple returns to normal life, although the closeness of René and O is already turning into a master-slave relationship.

And then the lover decides to give the girl to another owner. "Histoire d’O" for a long time strengthened the wrong, but very aesthetic ideas about BDSM: the action takes place in castles, the heroines wear special rings. Various elements and symbols from this work continue to appear in the theme until now.

SM Richter (2009)

In 1997, Belgian judge Kön Alegerz was accused of beating his wife Magda and pimping. The defendant was sentenced to a year of probation, a fine of two and a half thousand euros and loss of pension. The subtlety was that the wife herself did not bring charges. According to Orusso and his wife, they were in a voluntary BDSM relationship, and there was no reason for the trial.

The true causes of the case are still being debated. Many assume that the chairman of the Antwerp Court of Appeal simply settled personal scores with the defendant - he had previously sentenced his son to imprisonment for forgery and embezzlement.

Be that as it may, the case caused a resonance. In 2009, the couple themselves released an autobiographical book. And director Eric Lamens staged the picture. Moreover, the film turned out to be more of a family drama than erotica.

At first, Kyon has a hard time bringing himself to spank his wife and generally hurt her. But he sees how Magda's interest in life returns. The couple experiment with increasingly hardcore sessions at the sado-masochistic club. In parallel, their communication and even relationships with children are improving. But soon the interests of the heroes lead to already known problems.

But the contrast between the blossoming of the couple's relationship and the terrible pictures that prosecutors then paint in court is especially impressive. "The Right to BDSM" does not show any ambiguity: the film clearly declares that people are allowed to build their relationships the way they want.

Secretary (2002)

When “50 Shades of Grey” hit the screens, surprised jokes about the plot rained down from everywhere. A modest girl goes to work for a businessman named Gray and falls in love with him. But he is dominant. It's actually the plot of the 2002 film The Secretary directed by Steven Sheinberg.

The story is based on a short story by Mary Gaitskill, written back in the 1980s. Moreover, the original source is radically different in atmosphere. A short story, written in the first person, tells about a girl who got a job as a secretary to a lawyer. The boss spanked her several times for her mistakes, which pleased the girl.

And then, as punishment, he forced her to undress and began to masturbate. After that, the heroine quit. In the final, a reporter calls her and offers to hand over compromising evidence on her former employer, who decided to run for mayor. But she refuses.

For another offense, the boss begins to spank the girl, she likes it. And Lee in his fantasies turns their relationship into a beautiful romance. In reality, she turns into a submissive: she crawls letters to Gray and eats from his hands. BDSM sessions are shown here in a restrained and also rather romantic way. The opening scene is especially memorable, where the heroine performs work tasks with a smile in a neck and arm brace (it is repeated in the middle of the film). And at the moment of the first spanking, the camera is fixed exclusively on Lee's face, since her emotions are more important here than the process itself.

Bonding (2018)

Perhaps the cutest and funniest project in our collection. Strictly speaking, the Netflix series, which was invented and directed by the not-so-famous author Rightor Doyle, uses the BDSM theme only for entourage and comical situations.

The plot tells about the homosexual Pete, who is tired of the eternal lack of money. In search of a new job, he meets with his school friend Tiff. It turns out that she works as a dominatrix in the evenings, bringing to life the strangest fantasies of clients. Pete is hired as her assistant. In parallel, both heroes are trying to figure out their personal lives.

"Bonding" consists of very short episodes - each lasting about 15 minutes. Therefore, more often the project does not even resemble a full-fledged series, but a certain set of sketches united by one theme. Looking for a believable reflection of BDSM in this series is like studying medicine in the "Clinic".

Here, more often they emphasize the funny elements of fetishism and even turn the sessions into a comedy (what a fight in penguin costumes is worth). Moreover, it is surprising that "Rapprochement" does not even talk about love, but about friendship, which is unusual for such stories. Pete and Tiff find understanding in each other that they did not receive from their partners.

However, deliberate parody and lightness did not save the series from attacks. After the release of the first season, professional dominatrixes criticized the way the story was told. According to them, the author connects Tiff's passion with her childhood traumas and does not make a difference between her work and personal life. In addition, the relationship of the dominatrix with clients is shown incorrectly: there is no agreement and discussion of the rules.

Dogs Don't Wear Pants (2019)

The protagonist of the film is the surgeon Juha (Pekka Strang), whose wife drowned a few years ago. He himself, trying to save her, also almost choked, but a fisherman came to the rescue in time. Since then, Juha has been raising his daughter alone and living the most monotonous life: he either works or sits at home alone, masturbating on his wife's things and strangling himself.

But one day the hero accidentally ends up in the studio of the dominatrix Mona, who immediately calls him a "dog" and forces him to serve. And then the mistress strangles Yuha, and he is reunited with his wife in visions. Since then, the hero comes to life and begins to pursue Mona, dreaming of repeating these sensations.

First of all, the movie of Valkeapää attracts with an unusual setting. Visually, this is a metaphorical drama that often focuses on close-ups of faces, interspersed with visions or allegorical elements. The main action is presented from the position of a voyeur: the characters are spied on through doors or reflections.

In addition, it is easy to see the parallels between Yuhi's work and his interest in BDSM: both classes combine knowledge of anatomy and infliction of pain. The sessions are presented with a bit of fiction, but very close to reality: the director hired an experienced consultant to achieve plausibility.

Moreover, in the case of the main character, the motives are completely understandable: in the sessions with Mona, he finds an outlet for the emotions that he kept inside, and strangulation returns him to a turning point in his life. But no less interesting is the dominatrix herself. Krista Kosonen almost without words, very reservedly shows a mixture of apprehension, restraint and interest.

Mona meets a man for whom sessions are not just the embodiment of sex fetishes, like her other clients, but literally the meaning of life. And for their sake, he is ready for the toughest tests (not everyone can stand the scene with the extraction of a tooth). At the same time, the dominatrix herself in life tries to distance herself from the topic as much as possible, working in a rehabilitation center.

My Mistress (2014)

One more movie about two lonely people who get close on the topic of female domination. This is the debut (and so far the only) movie of the Australian Stephen Lance.

It is dedicated to sixteen-year-old Charlie. He finds his father hanging himself in the garage, and then guesses that he committed suicide against the backdrop of his wife's infidelities.

The teenager falls into depression, but then meets a mature woman, Maggie (Emmanuelle Bear), who works as a dominatrix. Their communication begins as friendship, but then develops either into a romance, or into a relationship between a mistress and a slave.

In some elements, the film could be called too uneven. The director seems to not always understand how he wants to unfold the story of Charlie and Maggie. But it is in such randomness that the emotions of the characters themselves are revealed. They find kindred spirits in each other, but belong to completely different worlds.

Therefore, the couple jumps from communication to submission, and then to intimacy. Moreover, Charlie, as a typical teenager, is interested in everything new, even though he is afraid. And Maggie, left alone after the termination of parental rights, cannot separate the desire to take care of her main activities.

Ai No Korîda (1976)

A film by Japanese director Nagisa Oshima produced the effect of a bombshell in 1976. The picture was enthusiastically received at the Cannes Film Festival, although even the critics did not understand: they are being shown frankness on the verge of porn or a deep movie about feelings. Subsequently, the picture will be called "the first great erotic film." The emotionality of the story is added by the fact that it is based on a real event.

The action takes place in Tokyo in 1936. The owner of the hotel Kichizo Ishida falls in love with the maid - a former sex worker Sadu Abe. The heroes begin an affair, for the sake of which a man leaves his family. They plunge into the world of BDSM experiments, coming to the realization that they love to choke each other.

A reputation for perverts develops around the couple, but they only enjoy each other. Gradually, Sadu becomes more and more aware that he wants to completely possess his partner.

Oshima made an amazing film filled with explicit erotic scenes, but not exciting. After all, in fact, he tells a classic tragedy about love and possession. And he inevitably comes to the conclusion that it is possible to completely get a person into his power only with his death.

In reality, the story of Sadu Abe, alas, is not so romantic. She was very jealous of her partner, fearing that he would return to his wife. Sadou had bought a knife beforehand and threatened that she would cut off Kitizo's genitals if he dated anyone else.

When they once again had sex, the girl strangled her lover, after which he felt severe pain and drank a lot of sedative pills. And then Kitizo allegedly himself asked Sada to strangle him in his sleep. The girl did this, then cut off the genitals of her dead lover and carried them in her purse for several days.

La Pianiste (2001)

The film by Michael Haneke, which received the green prize at the Cannes Film Festival, is based on the book of the same name by Elfried Jelinek. The same, in turn, clearly echoes the personal life of the writer herself. Jelinek's father gone crazy, after which she was raised by her mother, who adhered to strict Catholic orders.

She forced the girl to play the piano and even planned her musical career. But Elfriede Jelinek became a writer and created some very provocative novels and plays.

Haneke's painting tells about Erik Kohut, a professor at the Vienna Conservatory, who brings up the best students. At the same time, she lives with a despotic mother and even sleeps with her in the same bed.

One day, Erica meets a talented but very self-confident pianist Walter Klemmer. The young man falls in love with a strict mentor, and she initially forces him to perform all sorts of humiliating tasks. The heroine then gives Walter a letter listing her fantasies. She is prone to masochism, often inflicting wounds and cuts on herself. And now Erika wants the young apprentice to become her master.

In Haneke's painting, the heroine's passion for sadomasochism is clearly linked to her unhealthy relationship with her mother. That is why Erica first humiliates and controls the young man, as if repeating what they do to her at home. But then she leans back into fantasies of hurting herself. Moreover, the finale of the picture shows that the real embodiment of desires disappoints her.

«La Pianiste" has been compared to a story of mental illness. And in this regard, the talents of both Haneke and Huppert are revealed. They convey the state of the heroine without unnecessary grotesque. On the contrary, she diligently hides her problems, and has clearly learned to hide from others. This is most clearly confirmed by the scene in which Erica cuts herself with a razor in the bathroom, and then goes out to dinner with a completely calm face.

Bitter Moon (1992)

Roman Polanski's movie with music by Vangelis was released in 1992 and became an erotic symbol of the era. Although, alas, for many, she was lost against the backdrop of "Basic Instinct" by Paul Verhoeven - more deliberately provocative and with a vivid image of Sharon Stone.

But in the film of the latter, the destructive behavior of the woman was shown as a manifestation of her true nature: she maliciously seduces men and destroys them. In Bitter Moon, the relationships between the characters are much more complicated.

Nigel travels on a boat with his wife Fiona. On the cruise, they meet an unusual couple: Oscar, who is paralyzed from the waist down, and his beautiful wife, Mimi.

She openly flirts with Nigel. And then Oscar tells the story of their life to a new acquaintance for several nights. It all started with romance and passion, and ended with a tragic torture of each other, both moral and physical.

Through a BDSM relationship, Polanski shows the changes in the lives of Oscar and Mimi. At first they are madly in love, and the man jokingly submits to the girl. But their relationship is tied only to sex. Soon Oscar becomes fed up and becomes a real tyrant: he publicly humiliates his mistress, and then begins to use force. The problem is that Mimi herself was already emotionally involved in this relationship by that time.

But then Oscar is hit by a car, and their situation changes. Mimi (who herself provoked the paralysis) becomes a permanent dominant: she takes care of the cripple, but at the same time humiliates him in every possible way.

In contrast to the aforementioned "Basic Instinct", in "Bitter Moon" the dominant and the submissive change places several times, and in the final game practices turn into a real life style. And all this is complemented by the non-linear structure of the film: the action unfolds in parallel on the ship and in flashbacks in Paris.

La Vénus à la fourrure (2013)

One more film by Roman Polanski. Leopold von Sacher-Masoch's Venus in Furs, first published in 1869, is considered one of the founding books of the masochist subculture. It is dedicated to a character named Severin, who dreams of finding a dominant woman. One day, Severin meets the widow Wanda von Dunaev and concludes a contract with her for a year of thematic relationship.

But Roman Polanski's film doesn't retell the book. It is based on the play of the same name by David Ives, and is a rehearsal of the play based on Venus in Furs.

The main character, theater director Tom Nowacek, cannot find the right actress to play the role of Wanda. In the evening, when all the workers disperse, an actress arrives late for the audition. And her real name is Wanda.

At first glance, she does not fit the role of a well-bred and tough lady at all. Wanda behaves rudely and even laughs unpleasantly. Novacek does not hide his contempt, but the girl persuades the director to play at least one scene with her.

And then there is a real transformation: Wanda becomes an aristocrat. And Novacek is getting deeper and deeper into the action and can no longer distinguish the game from reality.

In this chamber picture, there are only two actors, and the action takes place in the same room, which turns it into a kind of theatrical play, except with pretentious filming. But everything rests solely on the talent of the performers of the main roles. And here Emmanuelle Seigner shows an incredible transformation: she really changes her image and even begins to move in a completely different way, to keep herself.

The theme of BDSM in this version of "La Vénus à la fourrure" takes on even more unusual overtones than in the original Sacher-Masoch. Nowacek, like Severin, is looking for his ideal, but at first he considers himself the master of the situation. And only fully revealed on the stage, he gives himself to the mistress.

The Night Porter (1974)

The film by Liliana Cavani, an associate of Bernardo Bertolucci, was released in 1974 and immediately divided the audience into two camps. Many were outraged by the provocative plot and explicit scenes of violence. They demanded that The Night Porter be banned or at least re-edited, removing the most violent moments from it. Others admired the artistry of the picture, saying that it is a real work of art. In the end, it even went to court, which nevertheless recognized the artistic value of movie.

The film is dedicated to former concentration camp guard Maximilian and former prisoner Lucia. During the time of the Nazis, Max protected the girl in the camp, but at the same time arranged sadomasochistic sessions for her. The heroes meet again in 1957 in Vienna. Awakened memories kindle passion in them, and they return to thematic relationships. But Max's associates, fearing that their identities will be revealed, begin hunting for a couple.

Even those who haven't seen this movie probably know the legendary scene where Charlotte Rampling's heroine, topless and wearing a cap, dances in front of the officers. By the way, it was filmed first and in one take. Then this moment will be included in the list of "100 best scenes in the history of cinema" along with the first look of the heroine of "City Lights" and the murder in the shower in "Psycho".

The dance isn't the only part of the film that was shot on the first try. And this is not always connected with the ideal acting of the actors: there was a catastrophic lack of money for the film, and even outright blunders had to be left, like a hair stuck to the camera. But most viewers simply do not notice this, everything is staged too gracefully.

The Night Porter develops in two times, interspersing a love story with torture. At the same time, even the cruelty in the film is presented in combination with aesthetic scenes: for example, memories of the camp run in parallel with the production of the opera. Although the love scene looks the brightest, mirroring the behavior of the characters in the past.

The Notorious Betty Page (2005)

This film is very indirectly related to the topic of BDSM. But still, literally everyone who is interested in the topic is familiar with photographs of model Bettie Page in various fetish images: tied up or in leather underwear and with a whip. This biopic allows you to get a little better acquainted with her life.

The plot superficially covers the main stages of Bettie Page's life. A modest girl from a Catholic family lives in the town of Nashville and dreams of becoming a teacher. But after being raped, Betty moves to New York, where she soon becomes a fashion model. She comes up with a new image in the pin-up style with the famous bangs. And soon the girl realizes that she can easily undress in front of the camera and star in the most provocative photosets.

The film directed by Mary Harron ("American Psycho") copies the style of the cinema of the eras it talks about. The first half of the picture is black and white, and then the colors, on the contrary, become unnaturally bright, as in romantic films with Elvis Presley. This helps the viewer to feel the very spirit of the time, and at the same time shows the transformation of the heroine.

To the theme of frank filming and fetishism, "The notorious  Betty Page" approaches carefully, without hitting either moralizing or glorifying erotica. The main character here often looks like a victim of circumstances. But at the same time, Gretchen Mol was able to perfectly convey the ease with which Bettie Page herself was shot.

In the film, it is explicitly said that she undresses as if there is nothing indecent in it, and does not even fully realize how provocative her fetish images with whips are.

Alas, the fate of the real Betty is sad. Already in the mid-fifties, she became a participant in proceedings in the Senate, accusing photographers of distributing pornography. Then the model returned to Nashville. And in 1979, she had a nervous breakdown, after which Bettie Page was sent to a clinic for treatment for paranoid schizophrenia. She spent almost two years there.

Beauty of the Day (1967)

In 1967, the future Oscar winner for The Modest Charm of the Bourgeoisie, Luis Buñuel, made a film adaptation of Joseph Kessel's provocative novel The Beauty of the Day. He did this by order of Robert and Raymond Khakimov - producers who often released frank melodramas.

But the skill of the director and his screenwriter Jean-Claude Carrière, coupled with the talent of Catherine Deneuve, who played the main role, turned the picture from pure provocation into a very elegant and ambiguous film about secret fantasies.

In the first scene, a heroine named Severin rides in a carriage with her husband, they quarrel, and he orders the lackeys to tie the girl to a tree and flog her. But all this is just a dream. In reality, Severin lives with a loving and gentle spouse. It is because of this that she is cold in bed, dreaming of hard domination.

Having learned from a friend about a well-known brothel, the heroine gets a job there in order to realize her fantasies. But she can only work during the day, while her husband is away. For this, Severin receives a nickname in the title.

The film very beautifully shows the difference between the everyday life of the heroine and her dreams and fantasies. In addition to the entourage of another time, even the setting of the frame is changing. Although in the final Bunuel uses this technique to confuse the viewer. And in general, the picture is very aesthetic. For example, in the scene where Severin goes to the brothel for the first time, the camera focuses on her legs, while managing to show even the heroine's doubts.

It was "Beauty of the Day" that made Catherine Deneuve a star. Moreover, the actress agreed to the role after reading only part of the script. The film itself received the main prize of the Venice Film Festival. And even Joseph Kessel approved of all the differences between the film adaptation and the book, admitting that the authors made a great film.

In terms of the theme of BDSM, the moral of "Beauty of the Day" is even too simple: the heroine cannot reveal her masochistic inclinations with her husband and organizes another anonymous and impersonal life for herself. Moreover, the picture shows that this is not necessarily associated with trouble in the family or everyday problems. Severin's life is too calm, but she is looking for real pleasure.

The Lie (1999)

In 1996, writer Jang Jong-il released «The Lie», a provocative novel about a young girl's sadomasochistic experiments. The book was immediately banned from sale, and the author was imprisoned for several months.

However, this did not stop director Chan Jong-il: three years later, he released a film adaptation of the same name. And the film was a great success at several world film festivals. Although at home he was immediately subjected to strong censorship.

"The Lie" is about 18-year-old Y, whose sister was raped. The heroine is afraid that the same thing will happen to her, and is in a hurry to lose her virginity herself. Y meets a 38-year-old sculptor J, has various types of sex with him. The lover tells the girl about his penchant for sadism, and she allows herself to be whipped. At first, the girl does this only to please J, but soon she begins to enjoy the process herself. Heroes are immersed deeper and deeper into experiments with BDSM, which does not fit well with their everyday life.

Jang Jong-il invited non-professional actors to his picture to make what was happening look more natural - «The Lie" is put on the verge of documentary filming. The action is sometimes interspersed with interviews with the leading actors.

But with simple shooting, the film vividly shows the development of thematic relationships in a couple prone to experimentation. Y voluntarily goes to trials and enjoys the opportunity to please a partner. And then both heroes turn into switches - each acts as the top, then the bottom in a pair.

Although sometimes the author goes too far even for such an experimental movie. Surely many viewers will not stand the romantic scene associated with coprophilia. So in this case, even the censors can be understood - the picture is very frank.

But still, under the shell of an almost pornographic film, a touching love story is hidden.

The Duke of Burgundy (2014)

Independent filmmaker behind films such as Berberian Recording Studios and The Little Red Dress, Peter Strickland seems to have stepped away from his favorite mixture of thriller and horror in 2014 and released a film about the thematic relationship between two women. Although in fact the "Duke of Burgundy" quite follows the main ideas of the director.

The film is about a pair of bottom Evelyn and her older mistress Cynthia. They act out well-defined scenarios of thematic sessions: for example, the first one comes to the house as a maid and is punished for her negligence.

But it gradually turns out that all this is only the desire of Evelyn herself, Cynthia plays the role of mistress only to please her beloved. Their seemingly slender and beautiful relationship falters when the world of thematic sessions collides with everyday worries: by the birthday of the bottom, they do not have time to make a bed with a box in which she should sleep as a punishment.

In the form of "Duke of Burgundy" - work in the best traditions of Strickland. The film has a cyclical structure: Evalyn and Cynthia constantly return to the same actions and even conversations. A metaphor for the monotony of their lives is the passion of both heroines for butterflies, which repeat their cycle in the same way (“Duke of Burgundy” is the name of one of the species of insects). At the same time, the picture combines the frightening tricks of the giallo style that Strickland loves so much with comical moments. There is even a scene where Cynthia sits on Evalyn's face, but in parallel they discuss the usual problems.

According to the main plot, "The Duke of Burgundy" reveals the idea of "management from below" quite well, when the initiator of thematic relations is the submissive, who prescribes all the scenarios. This is radically different from the plot of "Rights to BDSM", where Magda only voiced the original desire.

And the complex balance between constant thematic relationships and the problems of everyday life is no less clearly shown. Here it is revealed who really controls the pair.

Nymphomaniac (2013)

Of course, this list could not do without one of the main provocateurs of mass cinema, Lars von Trier. More than a dozen top actors played in his four-hour Nymphomaniac: from Charlotte Gainsbourg and Uma Thurman to Willem Dafoe and Shia LaBeouf.

The film is not directly related to the theme of BDSM, but there are several defining scenes in it, so "Nymphomaniac" can be safely included in our top.

The picture is dedicated to the woman Jo, who is beaten up by an elderly Seligman. She tells a new acquaintance the story of her life, connected exclusively with sex. From her youth, Jo became a nymphomaniac, often seducing even unfamiliar men. But the main and only love of the heroine has always been her first partner Jerome (Shia LaBeouf), with whom fate regularly brought them together.

At a certain point, Jo gave birth to a child from her lover, and after that their sex life faded away: the man began to have problems with erection, and the girl stopped having fun at all. Then Jerome himself suggested that Joe look for men on the side. After having sex with two black men, with whom she did not even talk, the heroine went to the "dangerous man" - K.

In this part of the film, the relationship of a sadist and a masochist, who meet only for the sake of sessions, is well shown. K immediately explains the rules to Joe and says they won't have sex. Although he warns that he does not use a "safe word" - this is strange for such situations, but quite realistic, given Joe's perverse needs.

Trier, with his inherent scrupulousness, shows not only the session itself, namely the spanking, but also the preparation. At the first visit, the heroes do nothing at all, but they focus on the knots that bind Joe and other elements of fixation. And in one of the further scenes, the heroine makes her own whip, and K explains the principle of its operation.

At the same time, the director shows a much more realistic image of a sadist. Jamie Bell looks like a simple and even modest young man and does not at all resemble the pretentious heroes of "The Story of O". Yes, and the sessions themselves take place in an ordinary empty room, and improvised means are used as tools.

Although Lars von Trier does not forget about his favorite tricks: the story about anal sex immediately jumps to a discussion of the principles of democracy. With flogging even cooler: draw a parallel with the methodical crucifixion. And the method of fisting that K practices is called "silent duck". Of course, this scene is edited with images of real ducks.

Interestingly, further along the story, Joe uses the knowledge gained during the sessions to knock out debts in a collection agency.

A Dangerous Method (2011)

David Cronenberg addressed the topic of unusual relationships in 1996's Car Crash, where the characters became obsessed with everything related to cars and accidents. But in the drama A Dangerous Method, he took the story of real famous people, and even tied to sadomasochism.

Swiss psychiatrist Carl Jung meets hysterical patient Sabine Spielrein. He finds out that the girl's problems are connected with memories from childhood: she was excited when her father spanked her.

In the picture, several dramatic lines develop in parallel at once. Jung and Spielrein's relationship develops into a romance. But at the same time, the girl shows amazing observation in communicating with patients and becomes a student of the doctor. And Jung himself then meets with his inspirer Sigmund Freud (Viggo Mortensen). But gradually the methods of the two psychiatrists diverge more and more.

Of course, Jung's relationship with the patient at some point reaches BDSM practitioners. Here they are shown with more restraint than one would expect from Cronenberg: only two scenes of spanking, in the second Spielrein is tied to a bed. Although everything is staged very artistically: frank moments are filmed through reflections, creating a feeling of peeping.

But "A Dangerous Method" allows you to immerse yourself in the philosophy of Freud and Jung, which tells, in particular, about the craving for pain and violence. So the picture may seem interesting precisely as a starting point for studying their ideas.

Most attention is attracted by the performers of the main roles. Interestingly, Cronenberg initially saw Christian Bale in the image of Jung, and Christoph Waltz was supposed to play Freud. But both actors dropped out of the project, so they were hastily replaced with Fassbender and Mortensen.

After the release, many were surprised how organically they look in "foreign" roles. Against their background, Keira Knightley seems to be overacting, especially in the first scenes, where she portrays seizures. But for the image of an unbalanced heroine, this approach is quite logical.

Flower and Snake (2003)

Strictly speaking, there are two Japanese films with this title: 1974 and 2004. It is better for an unprepared viewer to pay attention to the second, as more artistic.

Interestingly, both paintings are based on the same work, but tell the story from different points of view. In the first version, the protagonist Yoshi, suffering from impotence, kidnaps his wife Shizuko on the orders of the boss. He must raise a depraved slave from a modest girl. But gradually Yoshi and the prisoner become attached to each other.

The 2004 film is dedicated specifically to Shizuko, a dancer who dreams of masochistic practices in her dreams. Her husband owes money to the mafia boss, and in payment he demands to give his wife into his service. Since the villain is already 95 years old, the heroes decide that he does not pose any danger. But he draws Shizuko into the world of BDSM.

The classic version is more of a soft porn. More specifically, the genre of pinku eiga, which tells about women in the world of crime who are subjected to violence. The new one is set more gracefully and refers simply to erotic paintings. But in any case, The Flower and the Snake is one of the rare opportunities to see bondage and related practices in mainstream cinema.

50 Shades of Grey (2015)

Well, of course. We couldn't miss this movie.

One of the most popular literary works of our time is "50 Shades of Grey". The summary was read by those who have not had time to read the book in its entirety. Therefore, it is difficult to find a person who does not have the slightest idea about this work.

The name "50 Shades of Grey" is said very often. And many people do not even suspect that this is only the first book of the trilogy. Writer E. L. James described the continuation of the relationship of the main characters. The second and third books were titled Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed, respectively.

The first part is considered the most scandalous and popular. She told readers about the BDSM direction, which was not so brightly covered in modern literature before the appearance of the works of E. L. James.

In the first part of the trilogy, E. L. James is just introducing his characters to readers. The main character of the trilogy was a young college student Anastasia Steele. She is no different from most modern girls. Shy, timid, she works for the student newspaper and shares an apartment with her friend Katherine Kevara. It seems that nothing interesting will happen in her life. But one day Katherine asks Anastacia to help. The girl fell ill and cannot interview the famous businessman Christian Grey. Anastasia agrees.

A conversation with a man makes an indelible impression on the main character. Even then, she liked him, but the girl diligently drove away such thoughts from herself, because she believed that she was not a match for a successful and popular person. Anastasia never thought that one day her path would cross again with Gray's. But one day he looks into the hardware store where the girl works. Steele decides to ask the businessman for a photo shoot for an article. The man agrees. A good friend of Anastacia, Jose, volunteered to help conduct a photo shoot.

The school year is ending. Anastacia and Katherine decide to have fun at a party to celebrate the occasion. But the fun of the girls overshadows Jose, who decides at the wrong time to tell Anastacia about his feelings. A drunken young man only scares the girl. Christian appears to help her. Anastacia understands what the young businessman likes. But he tries his best not to show his affection. Later, however, Christian will offer Anastacia a contract under which she has no right to reveal everything she learns about Gray's personal life.

Wanting to know what secrets Christian is hiding, Anastasia begins to discuss the contract with him. Gray confesses his love for BDSM. Reading "50 Shades of Grey", summary or retelling, one can understand the surprise Steele experienced. However, the man's words intrigued her.

A little later, Anastasia will understand what a mistake she made. Gray not only wanted to practice this direction with his beloved, he needed to control her entire life. However, the girl was not ready to agree to this. Despite the fact that Christian considered himself incapable of falling in love, Anastasia becomes more and more important to him. He even introduces the girl to his parents.

In order to better understand his lover, Steele decides to know all the shades of pain, to try everything that Gray likes. However, she could not endure all this suffering. The girl decides to leave Gray, although she still loves him.
