Master (in BDSM) is one of the respectful titles used for the dominant partner in a Master/Slave relationship. Traditionally, this word (like other words for Tops in BDSM) is usually capitalized, emphasizing respect. In the Russian-speaking BDSM environment, the appeal “Mr.” is common (in the general case, as a respectful appeal to the Top, including in session relationships), or “Master” (in D/S relationships, in particular in lifestyle relationships, from the side specific sub).
The use of the word "Master" in BDSM does not imply any specific knowledge, ability, or formal training, and is not related to the Russian word "master", which implies some kind of "mastery", skill. It only means that this Top has a submissive who is in a D/S relationship with him and who voluntarily transferred the rights to himself to him.
The term "Master" in the Russian-speaking BDSM environment is used only in relation to men. For women, the equivalent "Mistress" is usually used.
